Listserv for 4-H Food Project Leaders

--Christy Price
The State 4-H Foods & Nutrition Team developed a listserv for 4-H Food Leaders last year. The intent of the listserv is to provide a forum for leaders to ask questions related to food projects and to provide resources on food and nutrition, and to support their work on food projects. The listserv is moderated by one of the State 4-H Foods & Nutrition Team, and there are guidelines for posting. There are currently 57 members.

We plan to survey the current listserv participants, as well as other Food & Nutrition leaders, to find out their expectations for the listserv, and solicit suggestions for topics and/or information that they would like to receive.

Almira has 4H Fun!

By Kate B.
The Almira 4H and Livestock has been having a lot of “winter fun” the past 2 months!!  In December we had a great time at our Christmas party.  We played games like “Red Rover” and had a 3-legged race.  We also enjoyed a great Christmas gift exchange, and we had every family bring 2 dozen cookies to eat and to give to people who helped us through 4H.

Then on January 13th we had a blast at a sledding party.  We did things like tube down the hill, eat donuts, and roast marshmallows.  Even though it was extremely foggy and pretty cold, we still had lots of fun!  Check out the picture taken atop Almira’s own “Tower of Terror” (our sledding hill)!

Our next meeting will be at our regular time and place, Monday Feb.11th at 6:30 pm in the Almira Community Church basement.  If you are interested in joining 4H, please contact Connie McKay at 633-1420 or Joyce Bodeau at 639-0155.

Imagine Tomorrow - High School Competition for Innovative Minds

Demand for clean energy, the threat of global warming, and the question of how to transition to an economy based on alternatives to fossil fuels are concerns for everyone. These tough issues demand focused research and a commitment that spans communities, governments, and industries. But the best solutions start with great ideas – like yours.

That's what this high school energy competition is all about. This exciting science-based program focused on energy issues is for high school youth in public or private high schools or those engaged in home schooling.

Cold Weather
These past weeks of snow and cold weather has proved challenging for many of us.  Add taking care of animals and new born to the mix, and it seems like it is a never ending job of checking animals, breaking ice, etc.
