Okanogan County 4-H Super Saturday
March 17, 2012, 10am - 3pm, Okanagon, WA
Okanogan County 4-H has a great way for youth to spend their Saturday. Join us at 4-H Super Saturday at the Virginia Grainger School, 1118 Fifth S., Okanogan, WA 98840, for a fun day filled with a variety of educational classes. Four to five different classes/workshops will be offered each hour.
Some of the classes are restricted in classroom size, age appropriateness, some require you to bring equipment, and some charge a small fee for kits/supplies. Bring a sack lunch or eat BBQ pulled pork sandwiches on site, served by the 4-H Teen Fundraiser Team.
The event is free and open to everyone. Non-4-H youth accompanied by an adult are all welcome.

4-H Volunteer Hours Reporting
ON-LINE Volunteer Hours Reporting is REQUIRED for all enrolled WSU volunteers!
Statistics (value of volunteer hours) based in input could help save 4-H and other Extension programs in tight budget times!
If you have computer access with adequate speed, PLEASE ENTER YOUR OWN HOURS ON-LINE !! It's not hard! OR ask someone in your club to enter your hours for you!
If you are unable to access the on-line hours reporting system, due to no or slow internet service and can't find another leader, teen, or friend to enter for you, Extension will enter Lincoln-Adams 4-H Volunteer hours as time permits. However, please use this option only if necessary!
Many of you expect or encourage 4-H members to keep records on their 4-H activities. What about you?

4-H Shooting Sports Training
State 4-H policy requires
4-H Shooting Sports Training in specific discipline(s): Archery, Shotgun, Riflery, Pistol, Black Powder, and/or Hunting - in order for a volunteer to be a Shooting Sports Project Leader.
4-H Shooting Sports Leader Training Offered
4-H Shooting Sports Leader Training sessions which will be held in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on the weekend of April 28 & 29, 2012. The training details are now available to distribute in the form of an informational flyer. While it is being held in Idaho, 4-H volunteers are welcome from surrounding states (Montana, Oregon, Washington) to participate. It is an excellent opportunity to obtain certification in two disciplines in just one weekend.
Note registration is due by April 20th and completion of an on-line risk management module is required by April 20th for those that want to receive their certificate at completion of training.
Please share this information with the appropriate volunteers, clubs and staff in your county. Should individuals have specific questions, contact information Jim Wilson, jwilson@uidaho.edu.

When information is available on 4-H Shooting Sports Trainings, it will be passed along to you. Members can be enrolled in a Shooting Sports project in a club only if there is a trained 4-H Shooting Sports Project Leader in the specific discipline in that club.
Leaders' Councils
Active participation and representation in Leaders' Council is necessary for a vibrant local 4-H program!!
The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 14, 5:30 pm. Location to be determined.

2012 Lambing & Management School
The WSSP annual lambing &
management school will be offered
three times this year, February 18,
March 31 and April 7. Dr. Jill Swannack
will be teaching the school during
lambing time at Martinez Livestock’s
Lambing Camp in Mabton February
18th and at Feustel Farms in Lamont
on the later dates. Topics covered include
basic lamb care, normal lambing,
grafting, lambing supplies, dystocia
management, drugs and dosages,
correcting malpresentations, necropsies,
handling, feeding, and raising
bummer lambs and ewe management. Two scholarships are available to attend for those who are 12 to 20 years of age.

Livestock Judging Skills Online
Lincoln and Adams County 4-H'ers still have access to a great, on-line livestock judging website called Elite Livestock Judging, where 4-H youngsters and adults can sharpen their livestock judging skills. Access to this web site is by subscription, and WSU/Lincoln-Adams 4-H purchased a subscription last year - through June, 2012. With recent updates, there are now tutorials on thirteen different judging classes. MORE

Swine Field Days
A Youth Beef Field Day will be held Saturday, March 3rd, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. to approximately 3:00 p.m. at Lewiston Livestock Market in Lewiston, ID.
A Youth Swine Field Day will be held Saturday, March 24th from 9:30 a.m. to approximately 3:00 p.m. at the Clarkston FFA School Farm in Clarkston.
The cost for each field day is $6, which includes lunch and handouts. Topics covered each day will include: Health Care, Quality Assurance, Feeding and Nutrition, Selection of project animals, Fitting and Showing, and other topics.
Pre-registration is required.

Washington Swine Information Day
February 3, 2012 - Moses Lake, WA
The educational seminar is designed for progressive pork producers and stakeholders; addressing critical and emerging swine production issues in the Pacific Northwest. Swine producers of all sizes; 4-H/FFA youth producers; agency representatives; agriculture educators; and fair/show representatives are invited to participate. The day will include an array of presentations that have been organized to meet the diverse and unique needs of the Pacific Northwest swine producer. Topics include balancing profitable swine rations for the Pacific Northwest, managing risk through livestock price protection insurance programs, animal disease traceability, and pork checkoff requirements for commercial, niche and youth producers selling pigs. Prairie Hatchers 4-H Club Invitational Youth Poultry Show
February 25th is the date for the 14th Annual All Youth Poultry Show hosted by the Prairie Hatchers, from 7am-5pm, at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Ridgefield. The judges have been invited, the facilities reserved, and the Prairie Hatchers are working hard to get everything ready. The premium book is being put together and will be out the first of February. This is a poultry show just like the shows put on by the poultry breeder clubs and fairs.
