Lind Learners
Eight to ten Lind Learners members are working on
a wood working project with Mr. Williams advisor of FFA Lind. Pig sorting
boards and stall cards were built during 3 days after school with leadership
assistance from FFA students. It's an example of expanding club work
for more ‘hands on’ learning
opportunities. Members enjoy a make and take. More clubs might
want to consider short term or episodic projects within their traditional
club setting.

Hey, we missed many of you at the March Teen Time meeting. You missed
out on a great educational meeting. Damon was a great presenter and we
learned about landscaping as a career, but also as a life skill.
Our April meeting would normally fall on Easter Sunday. Since that's not acceptable,
we will plan our April meeting to be the work day on the
Community Pride Project at Sprague, May 2nd at 9am. We will be laying black cloth and landscaping
with rock. Bring your shovels and gloves, wear work clothes and closed toe shoes. This
is great community service hours opportunity to count toward graduation requirements
as well as Teen Time applying for Community Pride Award.
Also, I have not heard from any group on your planning of embroidery machine
classes. What's up? Joy

With Easter only weeks away, now is the time
when we see baby chicks and ducks appearing in local feed stores. While
raising poultry can be a great experience, the Washington State Department
of Health asks that we remind adults & youth that chicks and ducklings
can spread salmonella and cause serious illness especially in young children.
To help educate the public about the risk of salmonella the State Department of Health has prepared free educational materials for you. order form

Attention 4H Poultry Project Members & Leaders!
Please share this with anyone who plans to exhibit poultry!
In January 2008, WSDA passed a rule which
states that all poultry going to exhibit must test negative for Salmonella
pullorum-typhoid (P-T).
This rule applies to chickens, exotic fowl, and game birds;
but excludes waterfowl, doves, and pigeons. MORE
Exhibitors can either participate in the National Poultry Improvement Plan
(NPIP) or buy their birds from an NPIP producer, hatchery, or feed store.
We are asking 4H exhibitors to save their receipts when they purchase chicks
at feed stores or save the VS 9-3 form (NPIP) when they purchase chicks
from NPIP participants.
Please bring the receipts or VS 9-3 when you exhibit. This
way there will be verification that your birds were purchased
from a P-T tested source.
