Kathleen
Lundgren
Memorial

Kathleen Lundgren Home Economist in the Lincoln-Adams Area for WSU Extension, was dedicated to 4-H, both in school and profession.

She was an active student at Reardan High School (1975 graduate) and an outstanding 4-H member of the Reardan 4-H Home Economics Club. She won the State-National 4-H Chicago Trip in Bread Baking.

After receiving her degrees in 1980 in Home Economics and Adult and Continuing Education, she came back to her home county to work as a home economist with Extension.

Kathy continued to inspire and encourage the 4-Her’s throughout the Lincoln and Adams counties until her sudden death in 1981. In her memory, some $3,000 was donated to begin the Lincoln-Adams 4-H Scholarship Fund

In memory of Kathy Lundgren, preference will be given to applicants who have carried a home economics project.

Garber Family Scholarship

Florence Garber was a 4-H club leader in Reardan, parent of 4-H members Nancy and Linda, organizer of county contests and events, member of Lincoln County Leaders’ Council, home economics judge, and advisor to 4-H county agents. When there was no 4-H agent for home economics, she worked with other leaders to sustain the program in Lincoln County.

She graduated from Washington State College in 1937, and became the home economics teacher at Reardan High School that fall. Twenty years later, she and Alice Peterson organized the Cloverettes 4-H Club. Within a few years, 17 girls were meeting bi-monthly in members’ homes.

Florence served WSU Extension as a club leader for 23 years. After retiring club leadership, she continued until 1987 as a service leader for 4-H events in Lincoln and Adams Counties. Florence strongly encouraged 4-H members to set goals, to understand that lifelong learning is healthy and appropriate, and that a challenge compels us “to make the best better”. Although never a 4-H member, she was a proud alum of WSU, and an avid supporter of WSU Extension.

In her memory, a scholarship of $1,000 is offered annually by her family.

Purpose
